National Ladder Safety Month Symposium Recap

Posted: March 8, 2017

To an onlooker, a ladder might seem like one of the safer tools on a jobsite, so it may be surprising that ladder falls account for about 20,000 injuries and 300 deaths each year. However, falls are preventable with the correct safety planning, training, and proper ladder usage.

The American Ladder Institute has declared March “National Ladder Safety Month,” and CORE Safety Group is dedicated to ensuring that our team holds and shares the most up-to-date and relevant tactics for effective safety training.

Last week, David Cervantes, CORE Safety Manager, attended the National Ladder Safety Symposium to learn about educating teams on ladder safety.

Ryan Moss, President of ALI (American Ladder Institute) and CEO of Little Giant Ladder Systems presented at the symposium as part of ALI’s national outreach campaign. ALI is the only approved developer of ladder safety standards in the U.S., and its mission is to promote the safe use of products, develop standards and educate the public on ladder use.

At the symposium they shared real-world cases of how fall protection, innovation and an increase in training can improve performance and efficiency while decreasing expenses. Most importantly, though, how effective safety training prevents injuries and saves lives.

The goals of National Ladder Safety Month are to:

  • Increase the number of ladder safety training certificates issued by ALI
  • Increase the frequency that ladder safety training modules are viewed on www.laddersafetytraining.org
  • Lower the ranking of ladder-related safety citations on OSHA’s yearly “Top 10 Citations List”
  • Decrease number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities
  • Increase the number of competent ladder inspector trainings
  • Increase the number of companies and individuals that inspect and properly dispose of old, damaged or obsolete ladders

Ladder accidents are preventable when people take the time to plan and train their employees on proper product usage. Do you need assistance with safety training for your company or team?
